Dark Matter || Book Review

I finally read got around to reading this!! Though I was a little disappointed, I still enjoyed it. The idea behind multiverses is fascinating. I love how the author took this and made a fun, entertaining, thrilling sic-fi novel. However, I just don't feel it lived up to all the hype. I think because I didn't think it was extremely original. 

The author is currently writing the screenplay which is exciting! I think this will make an amazing film! I am curious as to who will be cast!

If you have been interested in reading this I would recommend! I gave it 3/5 on goodreads.

The Roanoke Girl || Book Review

The Roanoke Girls is a disturbing depiction of family legacy and the lasting effects of a troubled childhood. I really enjoyed this dark tale as it followed Lane and the reveal of the many dark and twisted secrets kept in her family. 

If you are looking for a dark and well-written mystery, I definitely recommend this. Not only does it keep you guessing, Amy Engel has a way of shedding light on the difficulties of family and how a dark past never really leaves you. 

Note: This book is not for the faint hearted but I loved it!

The Vegetarian: A Book Review

I have been reading again! YAY! Because of this, I've gotten back into watching Booktube and there has been a lot of buzz about this book. It won the Man Booker International Prize this year, and I was excited to see it on Blogging for Books! I requested a copy to read and review, so let's go! 

This novel follows a woman who, one day, decides to become vegetarian. What follows next is a crazy and weird journey of how this one decision changes her family's life. I don't want to go too much into the plot because 1. The book is less than 200 pages and 2. I think it's best to be surprised with what comes. 

As I was reading, I was very confused and did not see the point the author was trying make. There are some very strange occurrences in this book, but when I finally finished it, I have to say I really liked it! This short novel shows how everyone is capable of madness. How we all question if life is worth it, even if for a fleeting moment. 

I definitely say if you are the least bit interested to pick it up. Though get ready to read something very unique! 

I think I will have to pick up Kang's other novel, Human Acts as I heard it is just as dark and twisty. 

Book Review: Shovel Ready by Adam Sternbergh

Shovel Ready was a surprisingly great book. I wasn't sure how I was going to like it when I first started it. Sternbergh's writing style is very unique and takes some getting used to. He doesn't use quotations so it was a little confusing at times to figure out who was talking. 

Overall, I really enjoyed it! This is book is very dark and violent, and the main character is an anti-hero, however, everything fit together perfectly! The story was gripping and kept me turning the page until the end. I will definely be picking up the sequel next year. I recommend this to people who like futuristic, dark, hard-boiled stories. If you like Watchmen, Inception, or Noir Films, or if you are looking for something way out of your comfort zone, this is for you!

August Favorites!

A lot happened in August! I took a weekend trip with my boyfriend and I moved across the country for graduate school! It was a pretty good month. 

Here are some of my August favorites! 

1) Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover. 

This book was surprisingly good! I loved the story and the characters. I felt so many emotions reading this book.  I highly recommended this if you are in the mood for a beautiful, heart-warming story. 

2) Moving. 

As I said earlier I moved for graduate school! It's taking some getting used to living alone, but I like getting to decorate my place and blasting my music without worrying about bothering a roommate. 

3) Portlandia. This was definitely my favorite show in August. I watched the episodes over and over. They get funnier every time! It is so quirky, I just love it. 

4) If You Like.

5) Organic Frozen Yogurt. 

There is an organic froyo place within walking distance from my house and let me tell you, it is SO good. The yogurt is creamier and is sweeter than regular yogurt. I am already addicted.
