I just got out of Captain Phillips!

I have been waiting in anticipation for this film ever since I saw the trailer. I went in with high expectation and it did not fail to meet them.

Captain Phillips, starring Tom Hanks, is based (loosely) on the story of Captain Phillips and his experience with Somali pirates.

This film was very well done. It reminded me a lot of The Hurt Locker with the shaky camera and lots of quick zoom-ins. The end of film was very intense and raw. I even teared up a bit.

What I really loved about this film, however was how the pirates were portrayed. It would have been very easy to make the pirates outright "villains" but they were shown with more depth and an empathetic back story. I liked how, though I was rooting for Captain Philips, I completely understood the pirates. They were not just on the hunt to kidnap and kill, they were out to support their family and prove themselves to their village. Some may not like this aspect, but I think that this made the film more realistic.

I very much enjoyed the film. I give it 4.7/5!

The trailer is one of my favorites (yes I have favorite trailers)! Watch!
