The Revenant: Film Review

It's time to bring back one of favorite posts - film reviews! I usually try to post these right after I see a movie, but I lost of track of time. 

After seeing Birdman, I was so excited to see that Alejandro G. Inarritu had another movie coming out (and with Leonardo DiCaprio!). I was literally counting down the days until The Revenant's release! I went opening weekend and it did not disappoint! 

This film follows a man who is out for revenge after one of his own killed his son and left him for dead in the middle of winter. Besides Leonardo's acting, my favorite part of the film was the cinematography. I love Inarritu's use of long shots. There were so many incredible scenes, I was speechless. I also loved the soundtrack. The use of drums in his movies! It was brilliant in Birdman, and just as brilliant in The Revenant. 

I HIGLY recommend this film (if for some strange reason you are debating whether or not to see it). It's already doing well in the award season and hopefully this will be the year Leo takes home an Oscar! 

So go ahead, buy your tickets and go see it!

Top 5 Movies of 2013

Today, I will share my top 5 favorite films of 2013!

5. The Wolf of Wallstreet

I reviewed this film yesterday! Martin Scorsese just can't seem to disappoint me!

4. 12 Years a Slave

This movie was in one word, breathtaking, both in how difficult it was to watch and in how beautifully it was filmed. 

3. Out of the Furnace

I reviewed this as well! This film was a big surprise for me! I was not expecting much but as you can see it ended up being one of my favorites!

2. The Great Gatsby

My review explains why I loved this film! It was so brilliant and Leonardo was the perfect Gatsby!

1. The Place Beyond the Pines

This independent film told such an incredible story filled with dark  metaphors about life, family, and the police force. I highly recommend it! Check out my review as well!

OGR: The Wolf of Wallstreet

The Wolf of Wallstreet was my most anticipated film of the year. Martin Scorsese is my favorite director, and anytime he and Leonardo get together I know that I am in for a treat. I actually saw The Wolf of Wallstreet on Christmas, it's opening day! 

When the movie first ended I left with negative feelings towards the film. I did not like Leonardo's character at all. He played an incredibly selfish man who indulged in sex and drugs. I did not like how the movie seemed to glorify Jordan Belfort and all the crimes he committed. 

I did however, appreciate Scorsese's touch. I just love his personal touches and the serious conversations mixed with playful jokes. As time went by, I found myself still thinking about scenes from the movie. I know when that happens, the film really made an impression on me. 

Now, I must say I actually did like the film. It did tell a great story, even if the protagonist wasn't very likable. I must say though, if you are planning on seeing the movie prepare yourself for some very graphic scenes. Scorsese pretty much had free reign when making the film because it was independently produced. 

Overall, I give it 4/5 stars. I loved Leonardo's acting and Scorsese's directing, I just didn't like how graphic it was.
