Monday, December 30, 2013

It's time for another post of my "Monday Favorites!"

Today, I will share my top 5 favorite films of 2013!

5. The Wolf of Wallstreet

I reviewed this film yesterday! Martin Scorsese just can't seem to disappoint me!

4. 12 Years a Slave

This movie was in one word, breathtaking, both in how difficult it was to watch and in how beautifully it was filmed.

3. Out of the Furnace

I reviewed this as well! This film was a big surprise for me! I was not expecting much but as you can see it ended up being one of my favorites!

2. The Great Gatsby

My review explains why I loved this film! It was so brilliant and Leonardo was the perfect Gatsby!

1. The Place Beyond the Pines

This independent film told such an incredible story filled with dark  metaphors about life, family, and the police force. I highly recommend it! Check out my review as well!

Runner-ups:
- Gravity
- The Conjuring
- Monsters University

Remember these are only based off the movies that I have seen. There are some that I am sure would have made the list if I would have seen it (American Hustle to name one!!!).

What were your favorite films this year?

OGR: Out of the Furnace

Thursday, December 12, 2013

Out of the Furnace was a surprisingly amazing film! I was not sure what to expect as the trailer is pretty ambiguous, but as a big fan of Christian Bale's, I had to see what it was about.

Out of the Furnace is a revenge film about two brothers is a small town in Pennsylvania. Though it seemed it was going to be action packed, the movie was actually pretty slow. This however, is what I liked about it. I liked how the action sequences weren't unrealistic and over-the-top. I love films that try to stay grounded in reality.

There were some beautiful shots and I loved how they used lighting to show the darker side of the characters. I also enjoyed the last scene of the movie! The main character takes a big sigh of relief, signifying the end of all his troubles; it was brilliant!

Overall, I loved this movie! It may even be one of my favorites of the year! This is definitely going to be an underrated to film. I really suggest it if you like slower movies and films that aren't just about the action. I give it 4.8/5 stars!
